Tell me how you feel about the plot of your book so far. What part of the plot are you in (exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, resolution)? What plot events have come as a surprise to you? What is your opinion on the development of any of the elements of plot (does your author do a good job of developing the plot? How is the pacing?)? Are the plot events believable? Which ones? How so? If they are not believable, why aren't they, and what would you do to change them? Use specific examples from your text!

Don't forget that this is graded on rubric! Check it out in the Useful Documents page so you can earn as many points as possible!

I feel like the plot in my book is random. Nothing really ties together yet and it's just choppy. I think I am in the rising action of my plot. It's talking about events that are leading up to something. Some events that have surprised me is, when they talk about a hog farm. It goes into very big detail about the process of making pork. I personally, don't think the author doesn't a good job developing the plot. The book is just really random with events that are happing and nothing ties together. Most of the events that are going on, is believable because nothing is super dramatic to a point. When it's talking abut the pork factory, everything seemed real. Those kind of factories always hide things from the outside world, and nothing is ever done correctly.

So far my the plot is multiple places. Right now I am in the what I would say is the rising action plot in my book. A surprise to me is that Taylor and Turtle are in the Navajo reservation. This is a really random spot for them to be if you never read the book. The author does an alright job changing the plot. She is choppy sometimes and hard to follow. The events she adds to the book is very believable, they are very realistic. An example of a realistic event in the book is when Alice, Taylor's mother, was reading the tabloid and the title was "Sex-man mom, fifty-five, elopes with daughter's prom date."

The plot in my book is basically just begging, because they are all starting to turn on each other. The plot is in the rising action stage, because Jack had one of those dreams that feels and seems so real about a beast or something to do with fear. Ralph tells him that fear is all in your head, but If you give into fear you will be fears prisoner forever. The one thing that really surprised me was that Jack was the one that gave into fear, because at first he was the big tuff guy or the big bully. The one event that did not surprise me was that they are all turn on one another, because if you are trapped and can not get away you will stop running and stared fighting each other.

I am in the falling action of my story. Basically, all of the big stuff already happened, there are just some things that need to be wrapped up. None of the events have really come as a surprise, because the author gave many hints as to what was going to happen. I think the author did a great job with the plot. It keeps me on edge, and I want to know what happens next. However, in some places, it feels like it drags on. Still, the plot is believable and realistic. For example, Kyle, Denise's son, has a speech problem. He is four years old, but he talks as if he were two years old. It simply takes him longer to learn speech. But when Denise meets Taylor, he is extremely good with Kyle, and the two get along very well. Taylor even aids in helping Kyle talk, taking small steps at a time. I think this is very believable.

The plot is good. It is intriguing to me. I am at the part of rising action. I am still learning about Shawn. The author is good at explaining what is going on to where it sucks you in. Keeps you interested and wanting to know more. The plot moves along nicely. The plot events are believable. Like his health issues. The way the author tells you what is in Shawn's environment. An example is when the dog got hit by a car and died.

Right now in my novel, I am in the rising action. So far, the novel I chose does not really have any surprising moments, but I suppose that is more due to the fact that this novel is not quite that easy to relate to; however, I have grown accustomed to one character in particular -- Mary, the wife of Jay -- the main character in my novel. The point of view changes a lot in the middle of chapters, which is exceptionally confusing, but it has also given me a chance to get to know Mary a little better and I have come to the conclusion that we have similar thought processes. For example, in the novel, Jay’s father is on his deathbed and while everyone else is off feeling bad for him, she is left behind thinking to herself how such a maniacal man could have so many people that still love him. She just does not understand how this could be possible, even though she does feel a little bad as well. We are similar in this way, because even though I might not have quite that vindictive of thoughts, I still wonder how some people manage to go through life and be mean, yet so many people still tolerate them. It is after these thoughts though that I feel bad for having created such awful opinions, much like Mary does after thinking unkindly of her father-in-law. Other than my similarity to Mary, there is not much going on in the novel other than -- of course -- Jay’s fathers health. This situation, although foreign to me because I have not went through such emotions myself, seems to be very spot on with how one would deal with such a situation and personally I find it very believable. To be more specific I find the situation of how everyone is reacting to Jay’s fathers health crisis to be conceivable due to the various characters thoughts on the subject as the narrator jumps around from one perspective to another. One character will be in tears while the next is thinking about how much better life will be with him gone, but throughout the duration of this novel, I have come to find that with any situation that occurs, everyone is going to have their different opinions whether they chose to show them or not.

I can feel the plot coming, but it's hard to figure out. I think the story is in the exposition and starting the rising action. Different characters are still being introduced and more events are starting to take place. You can feel that something is starting to build. Every time a new situation is introduced, it always is something different our normal life. It is hard to explain. One example is when a teenage girl talks about how the police don't care what the kids do as long as they are insured. She continues to talk about how they have no respect and can do what they want with no punishment. Things like this surprise me because it's a whole new world. I think the author is doing a good job developing the plot. You can feel tension and mystery building. I think the plot events are believable for the story but not in real life. The story is almost like an alternate society. In the story, the main character is a firemen who starts the fires. It is unbelievable in real life because firemen stop the fires, but in the story it makes sense since they burn books if they are illegal books to stop unwanted knowledge being spread.

i'm in the rising action i think... right now the book is really boring. i think that the author could have done a better job at writing the plot of this book. the author isn't clear at which point of view it is at and it is really confusing. So right now i'm not really sure what is happening. the events is always switching and it's hard to keep track of what is going on.

I am still in the exposition of my book. So far not a lot has gone on since it's just describing characters. There hasn't been a whole lot of surprising so far. I was a little surprised the Jean Valjean stole silver from the church when they were so nice to him and let him in when no one else would. Some parts of the book go a little slow when describing characters, but since it's a little different from what I usually read it keeps me interested. Since there hasn't been a lot of plot it's all pretty believable. Characters in this book have not been the nicest to Jean Valjean just because of the way he looks. This doesn't really surprise me any though. He is described too look big, bulky, unshaven and dirty. People can be very judgmental at times and it doesn't help that he has a criminal background.

I am in the exposition of the book, Seabiscuit. I am diving into the book, just ending the exposition of the book. I can sense that there's going to be some rising action coming soon in the book, as it is just now finishing wrapping up introducing the main characters past life and starting to get into the present and what they are doing now. The story has just starting picking up in the book. The part that came in shock to me when Charles Howard switched from the Automotive Industry to the Horse Racing Industry, as they are completely two opposite things. Charles was very successful with his business in cars, so I was surprised when he had left that for something else. "Giannini saw Howard rekindling his lost love of horses and though he should stop dabbling and commit himself fully to Thoroughbred racing. He would not enter the business on a large scale, he said, unless he could go first-class, with the very best trainer" (Hildenbrand, pg. 18). Howard found interest in this industry and started getting involved with horses. The author is making it a little confusing on developing the plot, as the book talks about two different men Charles Howard and Tom Smith. It does get confusing on which man the author is telling the story of at some parts. The author does a excellent job on pacing the story, describing each event into detail. His word choice makes the book very interesting. There's a lot of facts and history supported in his writing too. That's why the plot events are believable. They are supported with data. "In 1934 American marquee races carried a net value to the winner of between $6,000, and, in race cases, $50,000" (Hildenbrand, pg. 19). This is true, because this book is based on a true story and the plots are believable. The plot when the author talks about the life and story of Charles Howard is believable too.

The plot of my story is either in the rising action or just entering the climax. My main character, he does a great job of transfering to the different points of the plot line by dividing the book up by people involved with the suicide and by which tape and side he is on. I was not expecting hannah, the girl that made the tapes, to be so blunt about the people invloved with her death. The people involved in her death are the main transitions in the book. So far, so good!!

Right now I am still in the rising action, and I'm not so sure about the plot. Nothing very dramatic has happened so far. I hope this leads up to something very surprising as the climax. What came as a surprise to me was when Winston was erasing the files on Comrade Withers. I thought it was surprising that Winston could easily "change" history to match what the Party wants. I think the author has done a good job developing the plot even though I don't find it very interesting. I think there is much support leading up to a climax. Most of the plot events are not believable for our time, but they are believable in the case of the story. You would not normally see people being hanged in the city or see people "erasing" someone from existence. These sort of things could happen behind the scenes in the government, but I do not believe they are. I would not change them though since they fit into the plot of the story. I think they are also part of the message the author is trying to send.

I really like the plot in my book so far. It gives two points of view. The main point of view is of the Chief Inspector of the San Fransico PD, Lindsay Boxer. Lindsay is trying to find a murderer who is killing newly weds. The second point of view is of Phillip Campbell, the newly wed murderer. I'm in the rising action of the plot, I think, because if it were the climax, I think it would be when they figure out who the killer is and they capture him. I think that the biggest thing that threw me off was knowing who the killer is, instead of just having the view of Lindsay trying to find out who the killer is. You actually know who the killer is and it makes you want the police to catch them even more. The author, James Patterson, does a great job of building plot. He is a very descriptive with his writing and it makes it that much more interesting to read, because you don't want to read a boring book and have it take forever to build up and get interesting. You want something that starts getting interesting right away. Patterson is great at starting off with great descriptions and pulling you in right away. The plot events are very believable because this situation is something that could actually happen. The murder, Lindsay's chronic illness, and her divorce are all things that can/do happen every day.

The plot in my book is in the rising action. The story is still very choppy because it goes back and forth between characters so it is pretty hard to follow. Some surprises in the plot would be when the guy who is running for president has a building that has a lot of americans in it blow up just so he could use that as publicity. The plot events are not all that believable. They aren't believable because the ways that the candidates try to get money are pretty unrealistic.

The plot of my book is moving slowly.I am only about fifty pages in and just now have got to the part of my book where the main character meets a convict, which is also his grandfather.I think right now I am in the rising action.Nothing in this book has really surprised me.Except for at the beginning of the book when when the main character was the convict’s grandson.Other than that, I have seen everything coming.I think that James Patterson does a good job developing plot. The plot is going by very slow though.Fifty pages just to get to where he finally meets his grandfather. He is very descriptive and I like that part, but it takes him so long to get to the point. Some of the plot events are believable, like the part when he changed his name just so he would not be branded as a criminal’s grandson. The part that is not believable is the fact that his law firm and the high security prison was fine with them lying to them about being related to the
most highly sought after criminal and client. If they did not forgive him and let him through, there would be no book.So I understand why they have it that way.It just does not really make sense to me.

In my book, the action is picking up a bit. The main character and his friends were just hit with bombs, so it's pretty intense. It was very surprising, because nothing like this has happened before. The author has done a good job building up connections, then severing some pretty quickly. The events are believable, because of the war, and the fact that they're soldiers.

I think the plot of the book is weird but in a good way. It just makes you think a little bit and open your mind. I am in the rising action part of the book so things are starting to go somewhere and it's pretty exciting. The biggest thing that has surprised me is that the firefighters start fires instead of fighting them. The plot would never happen in real life but it's fun to think that it might happen. If it did happen life would be very interesting. The fact that books are banned is just weird.

I think that I am in the rising action of my book. It surprises me that Sethe lets Paul D in her life and acts like a father and husband to her and Denver. Sethe now seems like she is more happy and feels safe around Paul D. Sethe has had a rough past but Paul D doesn't want her to feel like that defines the woman that she is. I think that when they find Beloved, it is a sign for her baby that had died. There is something weird about Beloved which makes me think that she is a symbol for something bad to happen. Sometimes I think that the plot events are unbelievable from how all of these people can survive after what they had been through. It is possible but I just don't think that I would be able to overcome them like Sethe and Paul D have. In my book they had said that when Sethe was escaping slavery, she was abused but yet still got up and ran away. She is a strong woman and you can tell that she does the best she can for her daughter.

I am still in the rising action of my book. I was really surprised because the book started off in the 19th century and then it jumped to the story of a boy named Thomas, who lives in the 20th century. The book is about how they meet and how Thomas becomes Devonny's knight and shining armor because her dad is trying to arrange a marriage with a powerful but awful man. This author is a bit slow at developing the plot at least in this book. It was very slow at the beginning and and then within 2 paragraphs it jumped so far forward in the future. The plot is not believable because someone from the 20th century can't meet and fall in love with a teenager from the 19th century. I wouldn't change anything, but you can't believe a fiction book's plot.

It is becoming much more interesting and interactive. I am almost to the climax, if not there already. Uncle Tom has been taken, and Eliza and Harry have reunited with their husband and father George in an attempt to escape. I was very surprised at Tom actually being taken. I thought he would have stayed, or at least been granted freedom. I believe the plot is developing nicely, and the book is unraveling a page at a time. This is very good for said novel. The pacing is steadily increasing, although it was pretty slow at first. And yes, the plot events are definitely believable. Slavery did happen. Eliza was helped by many, many people, both African-American and Caucasian. Some people just want to help.

The plot in my book is very interesting and well put together. I'm in either the rising action or the climax tehe. The plot events that have come to surprise me is Odd followed a bodach to his home that looked different from the others that he's seen. He sees dead bodies in his house. The author does a good job of developing the plot. The plot is not believable because the main character sees ghosts and dead bodies and murderers and more. I would not change the plot because it is very interesting.

In my book, I am at the rising action. So far the book has moved very slowly. I am very surprised that Charlie did take Carrie out on a "date" to show her the city of Chicago. His friend said that he was very surprised that he was able to find a girl that perfect. Carrie has to help her sister Minnie find a job, because Minnie did not like the job she had now. Carrie realized that her staying she needed to live somewhere else because she won't have enough money for things that she wants to get. I don't like the way they are developing the plot because they skip around in the book when different things are going on. It also takes a while for the plot to develop because there are so many different scenes that we in depth of detail. Yes, the plots events are believable because many people do move to a different place to find a job or they even want to start a new life somewhere else. Carrie moved from her family to start a new life in Chicago so she can meet new people. Since she moved she did find a new job.

I like the plot of my book so far. I am in the rising action. I was surprised by the grandson of Sam Cayhill wanting to represent him in what seems like a closed case. The pacing is inconsistent skipping ahead days at times but also dragging on at others. The plot events like him going on trial are very believable. I wouldnt change them because it is creating a nice underdog him vs the world scenario.

In the Novel I am reading I am experiencing the rising action and suspense, this book is very hard to pick out and grasp where and how in witch direction is going. I like this action it is a murder mystery and is involving a serial killer on the loose! Starts out introducing the character in the killers point of view describing everything about him or her. Then quickly switches over to the police detective on the sense who covers the murder victim. This book is cool, suspenseful, exiting and page turning, I love reading this book! but like sleeping better! goodnight mrs gully....

I would say I am still in the rising action. There hasn't been a huge scene of events yet and nothing too exciting has happened. They are still leading up to it. So far the pace of the book is pretty good. The events are kind of believable, but not really. Just the whole overall plot doesn't seem real. I feel like you would know if the prince was gone and it was a different kid. It has good events, it's just that it really wouldn't be able to happen. They would get caught.

Anonymous said...

I think the plot of my book is kind of confusing because I think one things is happening and then all of the sudden something else is actually going on. I also think it is interesting because i thought the kid was just coming back from the war with everyone else and just talking to people and helping them along his way, when really he got lost and eventually found his way back to camp. I think I an in between the climax and the falling action right now. I think when he was coming back to the camp and i thought he was fine since he wasn't dead, but then I thought well maybe he is dead because all of these people that are either dead or almost dead were talking to him, when really he got shot in the head but it wasn't bad enough for him to die. I think he did a good job, because he starts out with him at home and then the boy trying to figure out what he wants to do and goes through his life of him in the army and all his thoughts and worries and it helps you understand what it was like and what is happening. I think the pacing is good, because he doesn't stay on one topic for too long and he gives you enough detail and explaining to get what is going on and to get you almost to feel like you are in the story as the character. I think the plot events are believable, because it was what the war would've been like back then and how people might have dealt with what was going on at that time in the war. "The noises were like stones; He believed himself to be liable to be crushed (crane 44)." This quote made me believe what was going on, because you could really understand his fear and thought and could imagine what it would've sounded like. Another quote is "Buried in the smoke of many rifles his anger was directed not so much against the men he knew were rushing towards him as against the swirling battle phantoms which were choking him, stuffing their smoke robes down his parched throat (Crane 37)." I think this quotes explains really well what it is like to be in battle and how he used that anger to his advantage.

I'm reading Alex Cross and I'm glad i chose it because it turns out it is not that bad. We are still in the rising action which is getting pretty good. I'm surprised because the guy Cross is chasing killed his close and personal family member, his wife. So it makes me think if the killer knows Cross personal or did he even mean to kill her? This part of the story was well placed because when you thought was going on is now twisted. When you thought that the killer and Cross had separated ways, the killer gets personal which brings a lot of action into the story which is nice and keeps you reading because you think you know that Cross is safe from the killer then this happens. Pretty neat. I would say it is very believable because if you think in the killers perspective he is trying to get back at Cross or even scare him to leave him alone. I wouldn't change anything. It'll be interesting to see where the story turns next...

I am currently in the rising action of my book, "Mockingjay". I like the plot of my book and feel that it will lead to a lot of action and unexpected turns and events. One plot event that came as a surprise to me is that fact that when Peeta appeared in an interview from the Capitol, he hadn't been punished, beaten, abused or anything. He just seemed very angry and upset about the events that occurred in the Hunger Games arena from the previous book.
I think that the plot is very well developed. The author doesn't jump all over the place and has a very good flow in her writing. She also gives you time to be able to understand what is going and and kind of explains what is going on through the words of the characters. One plot event that is very believable is when Katniss decides that she will be the Mockingjay for the rebels of Panem. The tone during this event is very serious. It's also very believable when Katniss's prep team from the Capitol are found after being abused and underfed. Their conditions are described in graphic detail to draw the reader's attention.

I am in the "Rising Action" part of my book. The things these soldiers will do for each other is awesome. Two guys that didn't get along, one went into an oxygen deprived viet con hole and passed out. His not-so-good-friend ran and jumped in trying to save him. This just shows the character of some of the people in Charlie Company. So far the story seems real mostly cause its a true story. I am very pleased with what i've read so far and i'm looking forward to reading more.

The plot in my book The Hunger Games is predictable. I am in the rising action. I did not expect Katniss to volunteer to take Prim's place in the reaping. The author is doing a good job at keeping the book interesting to read. For the context of the book, the plot events are believable. It seems right that Katniss volunteered because Prim is family and only family would volunteer to take a persons place in the reaping. The book even said that sometimes not even family would take the place but I think that the personality that Katniss has made her do it.

I think the plot has been pretty effective, because it reals the reader in, and makes them feel like they are actually in the story. I am in the Climax, and the mood of the book has changed from curious and worried to curious and suspicious. Clay has just found his spot in the tapes, but she says it doesn't belong the way the other do. I like how fast the events move, because It helps me to continue reading, and actually gives me initiative, which is something I lack in reading. Some of the problems on the tapes seem to be small and are then blown out of proportion, which reels me in more, and makes me think about things I have done and others have done carelessly, without thinking there was any chance it could affect someone in a negative way. I think all the plot events are really believable, because they are all pretty simple and basic, and it hasn't been as dramatic as I thought, but it is, at the same time, even more interesting than I thought it would be.

In My book there is a very good climax it is envolving the kids being attacked by Bob and has Boo Radley come out and saves them. The plot is kind of believable . I am in the climax right now because the action is starting to slow down some more and not so exciting as the last 12 pages or so but the rest of the book has been not to bad .

This new book I am reading is not all that great, the beginning is kind of boring. Its been telling this girls back story and what all is wrong with her. I am currently in the exposition. The fact that this girl is still trying to commit suicide is kind of a surprise. This is a very believable story, because there are many people that are trying to commit suicide or have committed suicide. There is even a website that other people have been visiting and it tells there story. They also all have a set date of death which is kind of creepy... My book is really kind of creeping me out with the stories and everyone writing about it.

Right now in my book there isn't a lot of action yet, but i still enjoy what is going on. Currently i am in the exposition. The biggest surprise for me was when Katniss started eating with her hands after a lady on the train commented that she hates when people eat like slobs by using their hands to eat. So far the author is doing well in developing the plot. He does a good job in slowly building you up into the novel. Some of the plot events are believable, like how Katniss volunteers herself instead of her sister, and how her family struggles with food and money, because lots of people struggle with money and food especially with this economy.

In Maximum Ride, there are a lot of things that happen. IT has a very detailed plot that makes it seem as if it is actually happening. Throughout the whole book the plot gets better and better. Right now I am in the riding action of my book. It is a long book so there is still a lot more rising action to come. Max, Nudge, and Fang are still trying to get to the "School" where they are keeping Angel. Max loves Angel very much and when she stopped to help a girl below while they were flying I was surprised.. All she wanted to do was help Angel but she just had to help the young girl that was being picked on the ground. She was just flying over when she saw this little girl. I couldn't believe that she stayed with the little girl and her mom and told her a lot of things about her powers. I think this book does a great job of creating an interesting plot. I actually want to read it. The book in fiction but the author is great and making everything so real. She talks about the fights in detail it is like you are in the book.

In my book action has been kicked up coming close to the ending. with the rights of war and such the main character Birdy shot a child and well you know that's not a good thing, but you have to do whatever it takes to live. The plot events flow in a first person view so anything that Birdy sees he has written down. contacting with the iraq people throughout the novel the amount of conflict is rising due to the fact that this is a war and people are dying yet nothing has happened to the good ol' troops.

I like the plot in my book because of the fact that it is different than I would usually read. Falling action is where I'm at because he is just about done with his journey through the woods. How he survived because he went through the woods alone for three full days and nights. It is believable because he is following what he believes in which is becoming a indian. I just want to say the ending is awesome. The social worker comes looking for Floyd and she sees how far he has come. She convinced him to come back and live with a foster family for the school year and she would let him go back to the reservation in the summer and live there. That is a good ending in my book.

I am in the Rising Action right now and the action is definitely rising. The two men who rape and kill innocent women are devolving. They started out as an organized pair who were methodical and careful with their targets, and that is changing quickly. In the pages that I read, the dominant male wants to catch more women but the other partner is becoming submissive in the fact that he wants to stop killing. I think that the pair will split soon leaving the dominant one with the only option but to kill his partner. The author does a great job of developing the plot and making it form around the main idea. He keeps you on your toes and teaches you to expect the unexpected (in the Big Brother House that is :D). There are several instances of this: he flips between settings and they travel around to different locations all the time.

I like the plot so far. we're in the rising action. What I found surprising was, when max found a magic book. One of his playing cards make to life and try to kill him. The plot as good detail I feel like in somewhat in the book. At spot its fast pacing and other spots its slow and but not a dead stop.

In lord of the flies I am in the rising action. Frustrations are growing between the boys. Not only are the boys neglecting to do their jobs and maintain the signal fire, Rumors of a monster start to frighten the group. Ralph is ready to give up leadership of the group. The author keeps building the suspense of the book and as a reader I can tell something big is coming up. I think the rumor of their being a monster shows the age of the boys. They still clearly believe that there is a monster and that shows youth. The Monster itself symbolizes the fear in the group.

Right now I am reading Catching fire and Katniss gets a visit from President Snow. Snow is the main man that is in charge of the Hunger Games. Snow came to talk to katniss about her and Peeta. He knows that their love was fake and he says if anyone else finds out he would go after Gale's family and Her family. So at this Victors thing Katniss has to make everyone believe that her and Peeta are madly in love. He also said that when they almost committed suicide the Capitol went crazy. People started to rebel. So basically the whole time Katniis was just getting yelled at.
